With a checkup and cleaning every six months, we monitor and clean your teeth and gums to help prevent the need for costly, time-consuming restorative care. Whether you think you need to visit the dentist or not, these appointments, along with frequent brushing and flossing, are the key to a long-lasting smile.

During your checkup and cleaning, one of our gentle, skilled dental hygienists will remove the plaque and tartar that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Based on what we see while cleaning, we can also provide important tips to help you perform better hygiene at home — the Bluff Creek Dental team places a big emphasis on patient education. We also take notes on your gum health, helping us to identify and treat gum disease almost as soon as it develops.

Once your teeth are sparkling clean, Dr. Crowley performs an in-depth examination of your mouth, its supporting structures, and takes a look at x-rays, if needed. During the routine exam, your dentist is watching out for a number of issues, including:

  • Cavities
  • Gum disease
  • Worn or faulty dental work (fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers)
  • Warning signs of oral cancer
  • Presence of wisdom teeth
  • Extra teeth beneath the gum line

After the full examination, we will put together a treatment plan with restorative dental care as needed to return your smile back to total health. Once the appointment is complete, we’ll send you on your way with a new toothbrush and a pristine smile.

Beginning around age three, patients of all ages should undergo a checkup and cleaning every six months. People who are at an increased risk of developing tooth decay or gum disease may benefit from even more frequent visits. Schedule an appointment for the whole family at Bluff Creek Dental today!

Many adults unknowingly grind their teeth or clench their jaws at night. Unfortunately, the repeated stress and pressure takes a real toll on your teeth. Nighttime teeth grinding — also known as bruxism — wears down tooth enamel, leaving you with increased sensitivity and at a greater risk of decay. We can protect your smile and reduce the occurrence of bruxism with a custom-fitted night guard. It’s small, comfortable, and can provide significant smile protection against nighttime teeth grinding.

The mineral fluoride is known for its ability to strengthen tooth enamel for significant protection against the bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. While most water sources in the US have been treated with fluoride, people who drink bottled or filtered water are missing out on its numerous benefits. For protection against cavities and gum disease, Dr. Crowley may recommend a brief topical fluoride treatment at the end of your checkup and cleaning.
