Unlike any other solution, a dental implant replicates the entire tooth structure, including the root. As a result, it requires a multi-step treatment plan, but how long will the process take? Every plan differs, but here\u2019s what you can except during each stage of your journey.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n\n\n

Initial Consultation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first step to a complete smile is to have your initial\nconsultation. Besides a visual examination, your dentist will also need to take\na CT scan to evaluate your oral structures in their entirety. This allows them\nto detect any hidden issues that may be brewing beneath the surface, like\ninfection or bone loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparation Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Depending on the results of your examination, you might need\nadditional procedures before undergoing your placement surgery, like a tooth\nextraction, periodontal therapy, bone grafting, or a sinus lift. Based on the\nprocedures you needed, it can take 3 to 6 months to create the groundwork your\nnew smile needs to thrive. Although it adds a few extra weeks to your plan, it\u2019s\ntime well-spent to minimize any potential complications that can lead to dental\nimplant failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dental Implant Placement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After you\u2019ve healed from any previous treatments, you can\nundergo your placement surgery. Sedation or anesthesia is used to ensure your\ncomfort as your gum tissue is opened to expose your jawbone. Small holes are drilled\ninto your jaw to precisely place each post into your bone before your tissue is\nsutured closed. Generally, the entire process takes 1 to 2 hours depending on\nthe complexity of your case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osseointegration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The implant posts act as new roots, stimulating your jaw to\nencourage bone growth. Over the next 3 to 6 months, your jawbone will fuse to\nthe posts through a process called osseointegration. This allows your jaw to\nsupport the implants for decades with the right aftercare while also providing\na sturdy foundation for your restorations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abutment & Restorations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once your jawbone has healed, you\u2019ll need a second minor\nsurgery to attach an abutment to each post. The special fixtures are connector\npieces between the posts and the restorations. It takes about 2 weeks for your\ngum tissue to heal. During this time, the dental lab will be hard at work\ncreating your restorations, which are customized to match your natural teeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same-Day Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many dentists offer same-day options to complete your smile\nin a single appointment. While there are some instances where this is suitable,\nsuch as with All-On-4, rushing the process can lead to implant failure.
